There’s a lot of all-hands-on-deck work to be done before it gets cold and icy. Here’s a incomplete list so you can speak up if you’re able to help!
Get as many bikes as possible ready to ship to Africa
(turn the handlebars sideways and take off the pedals, so they fit better in a truck or container, lock up and tarp the prepared bikes so they don’t get moved or damaged until we’re ready to ship them…)
Strip damaged bikes of useful parts, and scrap what’s not useful
(remember to separate aluminum if possible – it’s worth more than steel, or mixed metal!)
Disassemble some old wood shelving we’ve got into useful lumber, or if not possible, throw tarps over it to protect it from the weather.
and as always: sort and label donated parts for the students in our free mechanics classes to use.
Sunday, November 10 (12-5pm) will be our last Build-A-Bike and our last class until the spring, I’ll be running volunteer work days every Sunday from then on until it gets icy. Volunteers are also very welcome any day of the work week, for as long or as short as you’re able and willing to come.
We mean it, show up and take out one trash can, and we’ll love and appreciate you! Thank you for all the work you’ve already done, and I’m excited to accomplish more together.
Happy biking,
Noelle (Volunteer Coordinator)
