Lots of people buy new bikes for back to school (the first week in September — yikes!!). But if you’re a new cyclist in town, you may not know that many Madisonians have a bike specifically for winter — and fall is the perfect time to get to know a brand new winter bike.
All-weather cycling is safe (when you do it correctly) … but it tends to really beat up your bike. Moisture, sand, salt, and miscellaneous road crud accumulates on your bike, corrodes your metal, and grinds down your moving parts.
In anticipation of both back to school and the harsh winter weather, we’re offering a special sale all through the month of September. Take 10% off all bikes and parts (that’s 20% off for members!) and enjoy free bike delivery to the campus area.
New Tune-Up Site!
Karen at First United Methodist Church downtown has been instrumental in organizing free bike tune-ups on site. A lot of people grab breakfast there, and we’re happy to help them while they wait. Drop by on Wednesday mornings to visit our friendly mechanics, pick up some information about Freewheel, and get your bike in great shape!
Doing Right by Dirty Workbenches
Our shop is always in motion. With countless projects, tools in use, bike grease, and stray parts floating around, we don’t always have time to stop and clean.
That’s why we’re so grateful to the volunteers who dropped by last Sunday, put away all the tools and parts, and gave the workbenches a good scrub. It’s much easier to be productive in a clean workspace, and we appreciate all your hard work!
JDS Update
The Judge Doyle Square project is still moving along apace. If you, like us, are a fan of looking at pictures of giant construction projects, we recommend checking out the city’s Flickr album that documents construction progress on the JDS parking ramp — it is really cool.
We don’t yet have an official opening date for the Madison Bike Center at JDS. But we’re hashing out details with the city, and we hope to have a firm move-in date by the end of October.
Stay tuned for more details — including the date of our grand opening party! In the meantime, donate to Freewheel or become a commuter member of the new facility, and take our survey to let us know about the future directions we should bring Freewheel in.
